Harry Mattull grew up in West Texas surrounded by the vast Sonoran Desert.  For most of his life now, Los Angeles has been his home. " I love the desert and I love the Pacific coast as well. In my mind, they are inseparable."

 

Mattull studied at Associates inArt Acacdemy, the Los Angeles Academy of  Figurative Art and at various workshops with respected Southern California painters.

 

At heart, he is much like the prehistoric cave painters of Lascaux, France: enthralled with the magic, mystery and sensual power of the natural and human-made worlds that surround him. As the scene unfolds, he is compelled to capture some small truth of the colorful drama of the surging ocean, or the brutal spendor of the Mojave Desert in an impressionistic painting.
